How to colour your hair with Arctic Fox

Applying Arctic Fox hair dye is super easy and gives stunning results. However, as every hair is different, you should do a strand test to see the result of the colour before full application. We also recommend a patch test to make sure you are not allergic.

7 steps to a new hair colour:

Shampoo and dry your hair thoroughly. Do NOT use conditioner.
Use coconut oil to prevent discolouration of the skin and hairline (optional).
Remove the bottle cap and inner seal.
Wear protective gloves for the application and pour the desired amount into a bowl.
Apply the colour evenly with the colour brush. Start at the root of the hair and work evenly to the ends. Start at the nape of the neck and work your way up through the head. Make sure to saturate the hair completely.
Put a plastic cap or towel over your hair and leave the colour on for at least half an hour or longer. Arctic Fox hair colour does NOT damage your hair and comes with a conditioner so there is no harm in leaving it on longer.
Rinse the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. When rinsing your hair for the first time, do not rinse it in the shower! It's best to rinse your hair in the kitchen sink with cold water.

To prevent the colour from bleeding, the hair should be completely dry before sleeping. If you have stains on your skin, remove them with Salon Professional Colour Remover or a little rubbing alcohol.

Our tip: Wear old clothes and protect the surrounding area from possible paint stains. Use gloves to protect your hands.

Do I need to lighten or bleach my hair before colouring with Arctic Fox?

You can definitely colour your natural hair without bleaching or lightening! However, you will get different results depending on the degree of bleaching your hair has. If you want the lightest colour, you should have a bleach level of around 8 or higher for most Arctic Fox hair tints.

If you have darker hair, the colour will be dark and subtle, which can show up as a colourful shade in sunlight and bright indoor lighting! However, in normal indoor lighting it can be difficult to see the colour tone and pastel shades will most likely not be visible. We always recommend doing a strand test to see how the colour will turn out before applying it fully!

What hair stages are there and why is it important?

Have you ever wondered what "hair stages" are all about? How do you even find out what stage your hair is at? It may seem a little mysterious, but it's just a fancy way of describing how light or dark your hair is. If you know your level, you can dramatically improve your colour results. Let's take a look, because each hair level corresponds to a different colour tone:

Hair levels 1-5

These are the darker colours of the city. Level 1 is the deepest, darkest black you can imagine, not a brown in sight! Semi-permanent hair colours don't even come close to being used at Level 1 because the hair is simply too dark for any pigment to show through.

The higher the levels, the lighter your hair will be, with level 5 reaching the medium to lighter shades of brown. If your hair falls in this range, opt for darker, more pigmented colours such as Purple AF, Wrath or Blue Jean Baby for a rich shade! The hair levels are:

Shampoo your hair with cold water (as cold as you can bear).
Use sulphate- and silicone-free shampoo and conditioner, preferably colourfast!
Invest in dry shampoo (frequent shampooing causes the colour to fade)
Stay away from alcohol-based styling products as they dry out the hair and cause the colour to fade.
Reduce the temperature settings on heat styling appliances (high heat leads to colour fading)
Avoid chlorinated water and especially salt water! Wear a swimming cap before you go swimming.
Add colour residue to your conditioner to keep the colour fresh for longer!
